"A Caribbean Heiress in Paris" is the first book in the Las Leonas series. This charming and romantic story follows Luz Alana on her arduous yet bold journey from the Dominican Republic to Paris, where she strives to expand her family's rum business to a European and female market while securing a financial future for herself and her younger sister. Luz Alana travels to Paris with her younger sister and two best friends. In Paris, she meets Evan, a Scottish Duke who shares a similar goal of securing the future of his family's whiskey enterprise. Together, Luz Alana and Evan support each other as they navigate the ruthless business world of the 19th century. The workplace romance and marriage-of-convenience tropes are well-executed in this historical setting. One of my favorite aspects of the dynamic between the main characters is how Evan feels a deep desire to make life easier and less cruel for Luz Alana without coming across as a savior. After reading the entire trilogy, it is truly delightful to note that everyone around Luz Alana and Evan could immediately see how obsessed they were with each other. Throughout the story, we watch them try to deny their magnetic physical and emotional attraction to each other. The tension, yearning, and pining are a 20/10. They get a satisfying and perfect happily-ever-after.
