Rating: R for sex and violenceSex: multiple scenesLanguage: 3 F wordsViolence: bombing, battles, hanging, battles, slavery, more battlesHEA: yesWould I read more of the series: absolutely!I really liked this story! The overarching story of Loren and Vail keeps the plot moving and so much more than a fated mate trope. Character back stories are revealed slowly, revealing motivations. New characters are introduced that I hope we meet again. This author's imagination is awesome.----SPOILERS----4500 years ago or so, good elves left earth because humans were too violent. Those who stayed became the first vampires. The good elves created a paradise in hell to rule and live in. They have a tentative peace with some of the regions of hell.4200 years ago or so, Vail and a bunch of elves went somewhere and were attacked by Kordula, a witch. Vail became her slave (she is not his fated mate) in order to save his friends. She exerts sorcery over him, which is why he seems mad, attacking viciously sometimes and then backing off. Vail and Loren have been battling since. Loren hopes to save Vail, his only family.Vail finds Loren's fated mate, Olivia, then nearly kills Loren and leaves him at the door of her work building. Archangel is the human response to vampires, shifters, demons, etc, comprised of hunters, doctors, and scientists.Olivia examines him, he wakes and drinks her blood to revive. This starts the bond. It weakens Loren, causing him to take longer than usual to heal. They are aware of each other across long distance, feel each other's emotions, share physical responses (heart rate, etc), and can take injuries from the other. He has to protect her because she's now a target, and her being a target can injure him. They agree to search for a way to break the bond. Loren doesn't want to, but he feels a duty to his people, and he's seen what a fated mate did to his brother (he thinks). She runs tests on him and Bleu, his second in command, to see differences. They leave to fight Vail, and a bomb goes off in the Archangel building. She is injured, and insists on tending to the other injured.Sable, Olivia's best friend and a hunter, plays matchmaker, telling Loren to find out about her scars. Olivia's brother had been turned a vampire and abandoned. She goes to check on him, he bit her, and hunters killed him. Also, Olivia had dated a demon and got him access to the building, where he went on a killing spree. Loren listens to her stories and fears, they make love, and he doesn't want to break the bond anymore.Loren, Bleu, Olivia, and Sable go to a bar to get intel on Vail. Loren feels possessive, and he kisses Olivia in a way to assert claim in front of other males there. Kyter (jaguar bartender) gives him a drink to calm down, Loren gets drunk, and picks a fight. Olivia realizes she wants the bond, too, so they complete it.They return to Archangel, a demon king shows up to ask Loren for help, and Olivia is kidnapped by Vail. She learns Vail's plight. Loren, Bleu, Sable, and Thorne (demon king) arrive to rescue her. They kill Kordula, Olivia saves Vail by telling Loren what truly happened, and Vail escapes. Thorne says he'll be back in a month for Loren's help with a battle in his kingdom. Both Thorne and Bleu desire Sable, so that'll be the next story.
